Memphis man flees scene of accident; caught replacing tires shortly after

38-year-old Jessie Williams was charged with failure to exercise due care, driving with a revoked license, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident after he rammed his Chevrolet Avalanche into another vehicle and was located after getting his tires replaced.

On May 7th, Erica Lee explained to Officers Mell and Walker that, when traveling on Rangeline Rd, her vehicle was struck by a white Chevrolet truck. Lee noted that the driver of the truck was an African American male with dreadlocks.

The truck appeared to have tire damage, as eyewitnesses claimed to officers. The driver, later identified as Jessie Williams, turned onto James Rd. in order to replace his wheels at Elite Tire Co. Officers arrived on the scene and noticed a truck matching the description of the accident replacing two of his tires.

Upon approach to Williams, officers detected an evident scent of alcohol on his person per report. Bloodshot eyes and slurred speech were also noted when speaking to the driver. Williams admitted to drinking continually throughout the day. After speaking to Williams, the National Crime Information Center revealed that Williams had been operating his vehicle with a revoked license.

Jessie Williams was charged with failure to exercise due care, driving with a revoked license, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was later released on his own recognizance.
