Mississippi man downs six beers, wrecks vehicle with son inside

34-year-old Daniel Garcia Martinez was charged with failure to exercise due care, driving under the influence with child endangerment, public intoxication, and reckless driving after drinking six beers prior to operating his vehicle and was involved in a wreck with his 9-year-old son inside.

On June 22nd, Officer Scheffer was dispatched to 5954 Valleydale Dr regarding a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, law enforcement observed a 2013 Nissan Sentra that had hit a 2006 Ford F150. The Sentra was found to be flipped over once officers arrived at the scene. Law enforcement proceeded to make contact with the operator of the Sentra, identifying the man as Daniel Garcia Martinez. According to the affidavit, Garcia Martinez emitted a scent of alcohol on and about his person. Martinez was additionally observed to have a slurred manner of speaking, glassy eyes, was unstable on his feet, and appeared to be unsure of the situation, per report. Garcia Martinez confessed to consuming close to six beers before the incident. An eye test displayed signs of inebriation for Martinez.

Garcia Martinez’s son was additionally located at the scene of the accident. The father would later admit that his son was present in the vehicle during the crash. The Mississippi Child Abuse and Neglect hotline were contacted on behalf of Martinez’s son and a report was filed. Law enforcement then transported Garcia Martinez to the traffic division of the Memphis Police Department. Upon arrival at the location, field sobriety tests were administered to the man as well as the submission of his blood alcohol content. After two samples were withdrawn from Garcia Martinez’s blood, he was brought to Regional One Medical Center for medical clearance.

Daniel Garcia Martinez was arrested and charged with failure to exercise due care, driving under the influence with child endangerment, public intoxication, and reckless driving. His bond was set at $1,000.
