Boyfriend repeatedly strikes woman’s face while fleeing with newborn child

36-year-old Odell Pegues was charged with domestic assault and vandalism after breaking two door handles on his girlfriend’s car and striking her seven times in the face while their newborn child was present in the vehicle, per report.

On June 27th, Officers Turner and Braxton were dispatched to 4274 Wagon Trail Ln in regards to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with Laquesha Brooks, who informed officers that she and live-in boyfriend Odell Pegues had been involved in a verbal altercation. During the dispute, Pegues became enraged due to the methods upbringing toward their newborn child, per report.

The man began to destroy items inside their residence in reaction to this. Brooks responded to this by grabbing their infant and vacating the premises via a Ford Fusion. Pegues followed close behind Pegues and forcibly pulled on the driver’s side door of the sedan. The man’s pulling resulted in the handle becoming destroyed and Brooks being struck seven times in the face, per report. The passenger side door handle was additionally destroyed by Pegues.

Brooks was able to flee the scene and arrived at her mother’s residence in order to contact law enforcement. Photos were taken of the broken door handles, totaling approximately $500 in damages. Brooks refused medical attention despite an observed abrasion to the woman’s left eye.

Odell Pegues was arrested and charged with vandalism and domestic assault. His bond was set at $1,000.
