Strangled girlfriend stops car and fights back with golf club; incident recorded by witness

29-year-old Marquil Washington was charged with domestic assault after strangling and striking his girlfriend while she was driving in North Memphis, who attempted to fight back in defense by retrieving a golf club from the trunk of her vehicle, per report.

On July 1st, Officers Johnson, Lavery, and Lester were dispatched to 2883 Mountain Terrace in regards to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with Domminic Harris, who informed officers that she had been involved in an altercation with her boyfriend, Marquil Washington. According to the affidavit, the two were traveling on Mountain Terrace, when the two initiated an argument. During the dispute, Washington reportedly began to strangle the woman and strike her in the face. Harris was able to halt the vehicle in front of the residence of 2883 Mountain Terrace.

Harris exited the vehicle and attempted to access the trunk in order to defend herself from Washington’s attacks. The woman was able to obtain a golf club from the trunk and swung it in Washington’s direction while the man charged at her. Harris then contacted Shelby County Police, who arrived at the scene and detained Washington for further investigation. Washington suffered injuries from the dispute, sustaining a cut on his chin while in pursuit of Harris.

Law enforcement proceeded to meet with Leroy Frazier, who was a witness during the incident. Frazier had recorded the altercation, allowing officers to observe Washington charge at and strike Harris. The woman denied the opportunity to prosecute Washington and failed to complete a hold harmless form.

Marquil Washington was arrested and charged with domestic assault. His bond was set at $1,000.
