33-year-old Rodney Benson was charged with domestic assault after he read a Facebook message on his lover’s phone and woke her up, slapping her multiple times because of what he saw.
On September 4th, Shelby County Deputy Ferguson was called to 11740 US Highway 64 in response to a domestic violence report. When Ferguson arrived, Ariel Cole advised the deputy that she was asleep in bed when her boyfriend, Rodney Benson, saw a Facebook message on her phone, slapped her three times on her face, and questioned if she was cheating on him.
Benson took Cole’s vehicle and phone and drove towards Whitehaven. Cole told authorities that it was an unauthorized use of the vehicle, but that Benson was going to bring the vehicle back later that day. Deputy Mhoon saw Benson in the vehicle on Highway 64, conducted a traffic stop, and took Benson into custody.
Rodney Benson was arrested and charged with domestic assault with the threat of bodily harm. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $7,500 bond.
