Teen causes ruckus while being released from jail to be put right back in after spitting on deputies

18-year-old Keveauna Rice was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting official detention, and vandalism after snatching down signs on jail walls and damaging a deputy’s vehicle.

On October 20th, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Price responded to a Simple Assault at 6201 Haley Road, Shelby County Jail East Women’s, after Keveauna Rice had an encounter with Shelby Country Sheriff’s Fugitive Deputies Michael Bryant and Jose Pedraza.

Rice had been released from jail and created a public disturbance by yelling, cursing loudly, and ripping signs off the jail walls. Deputies tried to detain Rice but she resisted, hitting Deputies Bryant and Pedraza in the torso area and spitting on them as well. She also caused damage to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office vehicle by kicking the window and bending a part of the door, preventing it to close properly. This was valued over $1,000 worth of damage to the vehicle.

Keveauna Rice was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting official detention, and vandalism. She was released on a $1,000 bond.
