27-year-old Darien Stennis was charged with domestic assault after he punched and slapped his girlfriend during an argument about their relationship.
On November 14th, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies Turnage, Shackelford, Matthews, Haydari, Pugh, Harris, Campbell, Dowdy, and Barber arrived at the residence of Darien Stennis, 5600 Annadale Drive, in response to a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, Darien’s brother, Pierre Stennis, advised that Darien was assaulting his girlfriend, Smith Cockroft.
According to the affidavit, Smith stated he asked her to come outside to discuss their relationship but instead moved the conversation into the bedroom. She reported Darien started slapping and punching her in her face. However, Darien claimed only a verbal argument occurred and became violent when deputies decided he was the aggressor. Deputies stated use of force was necessary to detain him and Darien also slammed his head on the passenger window of the police car.
Darien Stennis was arrested and charged with domestic assault. He is currently jailed in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
